2023 NSC Victorian Schools State Finals


There has been so much excitement in our Inter-School chess tournaments all over Victoria this year! We have had record breaking Secondary participation, leading to a record breaking number of students who qualified for the Secondary Open and Girls state final events.

Primary schools have also finally made a full comeback from COVID this year. We have had to increase our number of Semi-Finals to 4.

We are looking forward to seeing some fantastic chess at all our State Final events!

Registration information has been sent to qualified students for the following events
  • Secondary Open State Final
  • Secondary Girls State Final
  • Primary Open Semi-Finals (4 events)
  • Primary Girls State Final
  • (Registration information for Junior Primary State Final (Prep to Grade 3) will be sent out in November)

Term 4 Junior Chess Club Programs (outside school)


The NSC Junior Chess Club programs provide a pathway for Primary and Secondary school chess players to transition beyond school chess. The programs focus on chess improvement at the students' level, in a fun and engaging environment. Experienced coaches work with students in groups based on skill levels.

Sunday afternoon JCC

  • This program is conducted at St Bridget's Primary School in Balwyn North.
  • The Junior Chess Club program (JCC) starts at 1pm. It is a 1.5 hour session which includes chess lessons, tactics work and game play.
  • The Junior Tournament Squad program (JTS) follwows at 2:30pm. Students learn more advanced tournament skills and the discipline necessary for more serious tournaments

2 fantastic days with lots of excitement!
The response was phenomenal for both divisions:
  • Secondary Division: 236 players from 16 Secondary schools
  • Primary Division:   155 players representing 20 Primary schools
It was a grand day out for everyone from far and near. Thank you so much to all the schools and parents for supporting this special event.
